Arnaud Ente Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain 2018 (750ml)
Domaine Arnaud Ente is one of the most respected micro-producers in the Côte de Beaune. Founded in 1992 by Arnaud Ente and his wife Marie-Odile, the domaine has risen rapidly to the very top tier of white Burgundy thanks to obsessive attention to detail, organic farming, and a relentless pursuit of purity and precision.
With only around 4 hectares and tiny annual production (roughly 1,200–1,300 cases), every bottle is a rarity. Working mostly by hand with their son Pierre, the Ente family crafts Chardonnay of exceptional tension, minerality, and old-vine concentration. Their style balances power with crystalline clarity — using restrained oak and innovative techniques (such as wine globes for aging) to let the terroir shine through with remarkable finesse and aging potential.
Key Vineyards to Watch
Buyers should pay special attention to these standout cuvées and sites:
- Meursault “La Sève du Clos” — The flagship. Sourced from the oldest vines (often 80–100+ years) in the enclosed lieu-dit En l’Ormeau. Extraordinary depth, intensity, and complexity.
- Meursault “Clos des Ambres” — From old vines (planted around 1950) in the same En l’Ormeau climat. Rich yet precise, with beautiful texture and aging ability.
- Meursault 1er Cru La Goutte d’Or — A Premier Cru known for its power and structure. Ente’s version is mineral-driven and highly sought-after.
- Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts — Elegant, floral, and finely chiseled — a classic expression of Puligny finesse.
- Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain (or Les Champgains) — Another excellent Premier Cru showing purity and vibrant acidity.
(Note: They also produce very small quantities of red wines, notably Volnay 1er Cru Santenots.)
